The old man, who is sitting outside the door, can be seen apologizing with his hands folded after being beaten up.

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on google and the results led us to several social media posts. According to the description of the post shared on Facebook by News 11 Bharat on January 22, this is a video of locals handling a man who had insulted Hindu deities by kicking and spitting on them in Amritsar. After the CCTV video of the incident came out, people questioned the attacker. The police later arrested him and produced him in court, the news report said. The news also shows CCTV footage of an elderly man, who was beaten up by a young man, insulting a Hindu deity.
As per media reports, the arrested person has been identified as Harjeet Singh and was identified by Congress’ Amritsar district general secretary Naman Kapoor.
After the CCTV footage of the incident went viral, it is reported that Congress leader Naman Kapoor went to Harjeet Singh’s house, questioned him, and beat him up, and Singh finally apologized.
Harjeet Singh was arrested for insulting Hindu gods, as highlighted in a video by India Today on 22 January, 2026. Following the viral CCTV footage, Congress leader Naman Kapoor visited Singh’s home, confronted him, physically assaulted him, leading Singh to issue an apology.
keeping this in mind, we checked Naman Kapoor’s social media page and found a longer version of the viral video on his Facebook page shared on19 January 2026. In the footage, Naman Kapoor is seen assaulting Harjeet Singh by claiming to be a Congress leader. Some parts of this video are being circulated with misleading claims.

So, it is clear that the Sikh man in the viral video was beaten up by Congress leader Naman Kapoor and locals for insulting Hindu gods in Amritsar.
