The Supreme Court ordered the New UGC Regulations to be kept in abeyance. Against this backdrop, a video showing lawyers throwing papers went viral on social media claiming it to be the reaction after the Stay order.

However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was misleading. The video shows chaos in the Lucknow bar council elections. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published on January 27, 2026, that contained an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video. The translation of the Hindi report read, “A commotion erupted today in the Lucknow High Court premises during the Bar Council elections. Around 4 p.m., while voting was underway, a lawyer noticed that a candidate’s name had already been ticked on the ballot paper. This angered the lawyers, who tore up the ballot papers and discarded them. Chairs and tables were also toppled, completely disrupting the election process…”

Using relevant keywords, we found a longer version of the viral video on the YouTube channel Zee Business uploaded on 27 January 2025. 

According to the description, the video shows chaos during the Bar Council elections in Lucknow.

This makes it clear that the video is unrelated to the UGC Bill.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video is unrelated to the Supreme Court’s stay order on the UGC Bill. It shows chaos during the Bar Council elections in Lucknow.
