A video of a torch rally with posters of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah went viral on social media. Sharing the video users claimed that it shows a protest against the new UGC Bill. A user wrote, “HINDU UNITY IS A MYTH.
One UGC law was enough for the mask to fall.
Brahmins abandoned the slogan of “Hindu unity” overnight.
Hindus were never one—and never will be.
The foundation of this religion is caste/varna, not equality, not unity.
To Dalits & OBCs cheering Hindutva:
This is your reality.”
However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the UGC Bill. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a Facebook post shared by the “Odisha Youth Congress” Facebook page on 19 December 2025.

The original post was from Bhakta Charan Das, the president of the Indian National Congress, Odisha.
The translation of the caption read, “For more than a decade, on the orders of Modi-Shah, the BJP government of the centre has been arming the central institutions to suppress the voice of the main opposition party of the country. Attempts are being made to defame Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi by bringing false allegations in the National Herald case. ED-CBI is being misused to hide the truth, but no matter how big the injustice is, it cannot stop the truth. That is clear from the verdict of the honourable court.
Joined the senior leaders and workers in the huge torch rally organised by the Bhubaneswar Congress Committee against this oppression and political revenge. This is not just a protest, this is a pledge to save democracy and the Constitution. Congress will never bow down to the politics of fear. This fight for truth, justice and democracy will continue till the end.”
Conducting a relevant keyword search in Odia, we found the viral video uploaded on an Instagram handle “Odisha Mirror ” on 20 December 2025.

The translation of the caption read, “Torch rally in protest of defaming the name of the Indian National Congress’s supreme leader Smt. Sonia Gandhi and the most respected leader Shri Rahul Gandhi for over a decade long National Herald by being trapped in false case”
Another video was uploaded on the official Facebook page of the Indian National Congress, Odisha on 19 December 2025.

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the new UGC Bill m
Conclusion
