
Recently, a video of a torch rally went viral on social media claiming it to be a protest in Bihar against the new UGC Bill.

However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the new UGC Bill. Here’s the fact check.

At the beginning of our investigation, we noticed the banner in the viral video where “Vote Chori”,
“Chhattisgarh”… was written on it.

Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to a report published in Dainik Bhaskar in August 2025 that contained a similar video to the viral one.

According to the report, the video shows a torch rally against “Vote Chori” by the Youth Congress in Raipur in August 2025.
We found a similar video on a Facebook page “Vistaar News” on 14 August 2025.

According to the post, the video shows a torch rally by Congress against Vote Chori in Raipur.
A comparison between the screenshots from the viral video and those of the news reports can be seen below.

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the priest against the new UGC Bill.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a recent protest in Bihar against the new UGC Bill. This is an old video of a torch rally by the Youth Congress in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, against Vote Chori.
