Old Unrelated Video Of The Danish Parliament Going Viral Linking To Donald Trump’s Nobel Prize Demand.

False International

Recently, a video went viral on social media, claiming it to be the response of the Danish parliament to Donald Trump’s demand for the Nobel Prize. Sharing the video, a user wrote, “The Danish Parliament didn’t issue a statement. It didn’t debate. It laughed.

Reports of US President Donald Trump expressing interest in a Nobel Prize reportedly triggered audible laughter inside Denmark’s legislature – a reaction that travelled faster than any official diplomatic note.

The moment quickly became symbolic. A global honour meant for peace, restraint, and diplomacy collided with political bravado and self-promotion. For many observers, the laughter wasn’t mockery alone – it reflected disbelief at how casually international institutions are invoked for personal validation.

In an era where global politics already struggles with credibility, the episode underlined a growing fatigue. Awards like the Nobel are meant to recognise long-term impact, not loud claims.

The response from Denmark highlighted how global audiences increasingly respond not with outrage, but with satire.

Sometimes, laughter says what formal diplomacy avoids – that credibility is earned quietly, not demanded loudly. And that respect, unlike prizes, cannot be asked for.”

However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was false. The viral video is old and unrelated to Trump’s Nobel Prize demand. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search. This led us to a report published on 5 October 2019 that contained a longer version of the viral video.

The report read, “The Danish Prime Minister had a laughing fit while speaking on the floor of the Folketinget, the Danish Parliament.

The laughing fit took place around midnight during an opening debate that lasted 15 hours, from 10 am on 5 October to the following morning.

Recently elected PM Mette Frederiksen was telling a story about four circus elephants and a camel the state had acquired in September when she started laughing.

The four elephants were the last circus elephants in the country, and Denmark had bought them so they could retire.

The camel was also bought by Denmark because it was the ‘best friend’ of one of the retired elephants.

The hall quickly burst into laughter after the PM started talking about the camel.”

We found another report containing a longer version of the viral video on 10 October 2019.

We found a longer version of the viral video on a YouTube channel on 5 October 2019

The translation of the description read, “Mette F. made the Danish Parliament collapse with laughter. The story of an elephant and a camel was too much for the Prime Minister.”

Other reports can be read here and here.

This makes it clear that the viral video is old.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show the response of the Danish parliament to Donald Trump’s Nobel Prize demand. The video of the Danish parliament dates back to October 3, 2019.
