
On 3 January 2026, the United States military invaded Venezuela, capturing and extrajudicially abducting President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. Against this backdrop, a video of a missile attack went viral on social media claiming it to be the recent American attack on Venezuela.
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was partly false. The video is old and unrelated to the recent American attack on Venezuela. Here’s the fact check.

The viral tweet contained two different videos.
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral videos and conducting a reverse image search.
First Video
A reverse image search of the screenshots from the first video led us to a tweet on October 1, 2024, that contained a similar video.

According to the caption, the video shows an Iranian attack on Israel on October 1, 2024.
We found a similar video on Reddit uploaded on 1 October 2024. According to the caption, the video shows an Iranian missile attack on Israel.

Other posts can be seen here and here.
This makes it clear that the video is old.
Second Video
A reverse image search of the second video led us to reports that confirmed that the video shows Venezuelan Missiles striking US choppers.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is partly false. The first clip doesn’t show the recent American attack on Venezuela. It shows an Iranian missile attack on Israel on October 1, 2024.
