The image shows a protest in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as part of the “India Out” campaign in 2024.

An image of a man protesting against India on the streets of Bangladesh is going viral on social media. The image is being shared as a link to the anti-India protests that erupted in the country following the murder of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. The users who share the image claims that it shows recent anti-India protest in the country. The claim further alleges that the protester was injured after an unknown truck driver ran over him.

Let’s check the truth

The same post is going viral on Facebook as well.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us a report by the Bangladeshi outlet Daily Inqilab that featured a similar image. It was published on 27 March, 2024.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found a post by Bangladeshi politician Md Tarique Rahaman. We noticed that Rahaman shared the same picture along with a set of other images of him protesting against India on 7 February, 2024, with the caption “Boycott Indian Products, Love Bangladesh”.

Using this hint, we searched more and found Bangladeshi media outlets like Protho Malo and Ajker Patrika reported that the Gana Adhikar Parishad party was leading a campaign to boycott Indian products in February and March 2024. A massive “India Out” campaign was launched in Bangladesh following the re-election of Sheikh Hasina as the Prime Minister in 2024 January, alleging Indian government’s interference in Bangladesh politics.

So, the viral image does not show a recent protest against India in Bangladesh and we could not find any credible reports of a truck driver injured during the anti-India protest in 2024.

Conclusion-

Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be False. The image shows a protest in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as part of the “India Out” campaign in 2024. The campaign involves calls to boycott Indian products and has gained momentum in Bangladesh.
