This viral video shows cultural activists in Bangladesh staging a symbolic protest by cutting their hair during a program in honor of legendary singer Farida Parveen

A video showing a group of people holding a man forcibly cutting his hair has gone viral on social media with claims that it shows rising atrocities against students in Bangladesh for wearing Indian clothes and not keeping beards.
The caption of the post states, “In Bangladesh, atrocities against Hindus are increasing in every sector. Extremists have committed a shameful act against students. The students wear clothes reflecting Indian culture and do not keep beards, so their hair was cut. Now staying silent will not lead to anything”.
Let’s check the truth
Fact Check-
We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google with the key frames of the video and the results led us to a report published on 26 September 2025 by Prothom Alo English, a Bangladesh-based media outlet featuring the screenshot of the video. As per the report, the video was recorded on 26 September, during a symbolic protest held in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The event took place along the Brahmaputra riverbank at Shilpacharya Zainul Udyan and was organised by the cultural organisation Parampara as part of a programme commemorating legendary folk singer Farida Parveen.

Also found a YouTube video uploaded by MCC News TV showing full coverage of the programme. The video, uploaded on September 28, titled ‘Remembering Lalankanya Farida Parveen, who cut her hair in protest on the banks of the Brahmaputra.’ Cultural activists in Mymensingh staged a symbolic protest along the Brahmaputra riverside against recent incidents of forcible hair cutting during a memorial programme for late artiste Farida Parveen, where organiser Shamim Ashraf had his hair cut to condemn attacks on shrine culture and the oppression of artists.
As per reports of Bangladeshi media outlets, Halim Uddin Akand, a 70-year-old fakir and devotee of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA), as well as a follower of the Naqshbandi order, was chased by a few people, pinned down, and had his hair forcibly shaved in Tarakanda, Mymensingh.
Thus, a symbolic protest video by cultural activists during a commemorative event for Farida Parveen from Bangladesh is falsely shared as showing atrocities against students for wearing Indian clothes and not keeping beards.
Conclusion-
