However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is not from Chennai. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to an Instagram handle where the viral video was uploaded on August 20, 2025.

The caption of the video read, “Tuesday’s heavy rainfall in Karachi led to a man being swept away by rainwater on Shahrah-e-Faisal.”
We found the video on another Instagram handle uploaded on August 20, 2025.

According to the caption, the video is from Shahrah-e-Faisal, Pakistan.
Taking this clue, we searched for the location on Google Maps and geolocated the place.

We found a video on YouTube uploaded on August 19, 2025, showing the aerial view of the Karachi floods. A few clips matched the location of the viral video.

The video can be seen below.
This makes it clear that the viral video is from Karachi, Pakistan.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a recent flood in Chennai. This is an old video from Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi, Pakistan.
