
A video of a flooded street went viral on social media claiming it to be from Chennai as a result of Cyclone Ditwah.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is old and not from Chennai. Here’s the fact check.

At the beginning of our investigation, we noticed a shop name in the Bengali language in the viral video.

Moreover, the number plates on the vehicles read “WB”, indicating that they are from West Bengal.
Moving forward, we took some screenshots from the viral video and conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to an Instagram post where we found the photo of the restaurant “Royal Indian Restaurant” that is visible in the viral video.

According to the caption, the restaurant is located at Park Circus, Kolkata.

We geolocated the place that can be seen here.
We found several videos similar to the viral video that predate the current floods in Chennai.

This makes it clear that the viral video is not from Chennai.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show the current floods in Chennai. This is an old video from Kolkata, West Bengal.
