Recently an image of a man carrying grains through floodwater on a raft made of banana trees went viral on social media. Sharing the image, users claimed that the image shows the recent flood situation in Punjab.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral image is old and unrelated to the current floods in Punjab. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published in The Indian Express on 17 August 2017 that contained the viral image. According to the report, the image shows a flood situation in Bihar.

Moving forward, we found a report published in The Hindu on 19 August 2017 that contained the viral image. The caption of the image read, “The death toll due to the floods is triggered by rains in Nepal and northern parts of the State. Picture shows A villager carrying grains on a banana raft as he shifts from a flooded village in Araria district of Bihar.”

According to reports, around 1.08 crore people were affected by the floods in Bihar in 2017.

This makes it clear that the viral image is old and unrelated to the current floods in Punjab.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral image of a man carrying grains through the floodwater on a raft made of banana trees is not from the current floods in Punjab. The image is from the Araria district of Bihar in August 2017.
