However, as we investigated, we learned that the claim was misleading. The incident took place in August 2024. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search in Bengali. This led us to a video report uploaded on a YouTube channel “Bangla Edition” on 11th August 2025. The report mentioned the viral incident. According to the report, Imam of Imanbagh Mosque in Khilgaon, Imtiaz Uddin, said that on August 5, 2024, some miscreants set fire to the Khilgaon police station and looted the weapons. Locals and students rushed to the police station, recovered the weapons and kept them at the Imanbagh mosque. A large number of weapons were recovered and the people were unsure about the place where the weapons should be kept. Later, on August 6, 2024, the army arrived and made arrangements for the weapons to be kept in the mosque and prepared a list of weapons recovered.
Taking this clue, using relevant keywords, we found a Facebook post of the Imam of the Imanbagh Jame Mosque, Imtiaz Masrur, on 7 August 2024 which contained the viral images. According to the caption, the weapons looted from the Khilgaon police station were recovered and handed over to the Bangladesh Army with the cooperation of the residents of the Khilgaon Jame Masjid area.
