On 9 July 2025, during the INDIA bloc’s Bihar Bandh protests, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar and Purnia MP Pappu Yadav were stopped from boarding an open van where Rahul Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and other politicians boarded. Against this backdrop, a video of Pappu Yadav criticising Tejaswi Yadav went viral on social media. Sharing the video, users claimed that after the Bharat Bandh protest incident on 9 July, Pappu Yadav had made remarks against Tejaswi Yadav.
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim is misleading. The viral video is old and unrelated to the Bharat Bandh protest on 9 July. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
At the beginning of our investigation, we noticed a logo, “LIVE CITIES”, in the top right corner of the video. Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to the longer version of the viral video uploaded on the YouTube channel “Live Cities Media Private Limited ” on 16 October 2020. The video shows a journalist interviewing Pappu Yadav about his campaign and the public response the Jan Adhikar Party was receiving.
From the timestamp 5:45, the viral clip can be seen.
This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the Bharat Bandh protest on 9 July 2025.
Further, we found a video where Pappu Yadav clarified the incident on 9 July 2025. He said, “I fell down and got hurt. One leader from each party was present there, but this is not an insult.”
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The video doesn’t show Pappu Yadav criticising Tejaswi Yadav after he was stopped from boarding the open van during the Bharat Bandh protests on 9 July 2025. This is an old video from 2020.
