This is an old image of the control room of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine.

Following the recent escalation of India-Pakistan conflict, an image of a destroyed control room is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows Pakistan’s Nur Khan Airbase after India’s attack.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a CNN report from 29 May 2020. The report features the same viral image and states that it shows, “the abandoned Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in present-day Ukraine”.

The Chernobyl disaster, considered the worst nuclear accident in history, occurred on 26 April, 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. The accident resulted from a flawed reactor design and inadequate training, leading to a power surge during a test, an explosion, and a fire that released large amounts of radioactive materials into the atmosphere. 

Moving forward, we found a similar image on stock images website Alamy also, which was clicked in 2019 after the control room was opened for tourists.

According to the Telegraph report, the image was clicked on 10 November 2000. So, based on these evidences, we can understand that an old image of the control room of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine falsely shared as Pakistan’s Nur Khan Airbase after India’s attack.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be False. This is an old image of the control room of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. It has no link to the recent India-Pakistan tension.
