Recently a video of a large number of people travelling on foot went viral on social media claiming that these were the people returning to Pakistan from India after the Pahalgam terror attack.
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The video is old and from Gaza. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to an Instagram post where a video was uploaded on 15 April 2025. A small clip from the viral video can be seen in the Instagram video we found.
According to the caption, the viral video is from Palestine. Moreover, the video predates the Pahalgam terror attack.
We found the same viral video on a Facebook page uploaded on 28 January 2025. The translation of the Croatian caption of the video reads, “They return to their homes”

Using a relevant keyword search, we found a report published on 28 January 2025 which contained an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video. The caption of the image read, “Palestinians, displaced by Israel forces, return their houses through Al-Rashid Street on the coastal strip following the ceasefire agreement in Gaza City, Gaza on January 27, 2025. According to reports, “Tens of thousands of Palestinians returned to the most heavily destroyed part of the Gaza Strip on 27 January 2025 as Israel lifted its closure of the north for the first time since the early weeks of the 15-month war with Hamas in accordance with a fragile ceasefire”.

This makes is clear that the viral video is old and from Gaza.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show the Pakistani people returning to Pakistan from India after the Pahalgam terror attack. The video shows the Palestinians returning to their home in North Gaza on 27 January 2025 after the ceasefire agreement.
