FACT CHECK

Fact Crescendo investigated this claim using Google Reverse Image Search, interviews with the corporate agents, and keyword searches to uncover the following facts.

Upon reviewing the Facebook page, it is evident that it is not an official page of Samsung Electronics for the Cambodian market. The page was created in September last year and has only 14 followers.

Samsung operates a single official Facebook page that provides information, support, and promotions in multiple languages, each tailored to specific markets. The page, owned by the Korean tech giant, is verified and boasts 162 million followers.

When reached through the hotline listed on Samsung’s official Facebook page, a corporate customer service agent responded in Khmer, warning customers about online scams exploiting the Samsung brand. He advised them to buy smart devices exclusively from authorized dealers in Phnom Penh to ensure authenticity and security.

In addition, through Google Reverse Image Search, we identified the origins of the photos utilized in the promotion, which was published in Khmer on social media platforms.

A Vietnamese media outlet reported that the photo showing a large crowd queuing in front of a store called SAMCENTER depicts the official launch of a Samsung-authorized store in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, an event that took place nearly two years ago.

The SAOSTAR report featured a screenshot showing Vietnamese customers gathered in front of SAMCENTER, a Samsung-authorized dealer in Vietnam.

SAMCENTER is the official Samsung-authorized dealer in Vietnam, previously operating 30 stores nationwide before closing five in recent months. It maintains both a website and an official Facebook page, SamCenter Việt Nam, which boasts over 34,000 followers.

A review of its official Facebook page suggests that SamCenter Vietnam has not conducted the promotions seen in certain social media posts.

When contacted via Messenger, a customer service agent at SamCenter Vietnam confirmed that the company has no connection to the fraudulent promotions circulating on social media. They emphasized that these scams are not affiliated with SamCenter in any way.

A Facebook search for “SamCenter” reveals numerous pages featuring the name alongside country names like Cambodia, the Philippines, and Thailand. These pages appear to have been created using the “SamCenter” branding.

In Vietnam alone, more than ten Facebook pages have been created using the name “SamCenter Vietnam,” sharing announcements claiming that Samsung is offering significant discounts on its smartphones and other devices.

The SAMCENTER’s customer service agent stated that SamCenter has no stores in other countries within the region.  The company clarified that any Facebook pages using the company’s branding are not affiliated with its operations in any way.

A review of each Facebook page indicates that they were recently created. Additionally, the website links included in their posts are not subdomains of Samsung’s official website, raising concerns about their legitimacy.

Fact Crescendo attempted to contact Samsung Electronics via multiple email addresses but has not received a response. Any updates will be provided as soon as a reply is received.
