This image shows illegal immigrants who were deported from the United States to Guatemala on January 30. 

After Donald Trump’s reinstatement as President of the United States, 205 Indian immigrants were deported to India, focusing on unauthorized entry. Against this backdrop, an image is being widely circulated on social media purporting to be a picture of illegal immigrants being sent to India by the United States. The viral image shows several people handcuffed and chained while being seated inside a fighter jet.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on google and the results led us to a news article published by The Independent featuring the same viral image. The report was published on 30 January 2025 and it states illegal immigrants being deported to Guatemala and Mexico. The report did not mention anything about Indians.

This image was credited to Associated Press (AP) and we checked AP’s official website for this image and found. The caption reads, “Migrants wearing face masks and shackles on their hands and feet sit on a military aircraft at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Tx., Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, awaiting their deportation to Guatemala”.

According to reports, 205 people who had been sent back to India would arrive in Amritsar today. However, 104 people arrived at Amritsar airport this afternoon. They arrived on a US military C-17 aircraft.

All these evidences confirms that this image does not show Indian migrants.

Conclusion- 

Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be Misleading. This image shows illegal immigrants who were deported from the United States to Guatemala on January 30.
