After the deadly accident of an LPG gas tanker and a truck in Jaipur on 20 December, many videos surfaced on social media linking to the incident. Against this backdrop, a video of a blazing tanker rolling across the road went viral on social media claiming it to be the scene of the Jaipur accident.
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral video is old and not related to the Jaipur incident. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a video similar to the viral video uploaded on CBC TV Azerbaijan YouTube channel on 13 October 2024. However, the accident in Jaipur took place on December 20, 2024. This makes it clear that the viral video predates the Jaipur accident.
The caption of the video read, “Explosion at a gas station in Grozny”. Grozny is the capital city of Chechnya, Russia.
Taking this clue, using relevant keywords, we found the viral video on the YouTube channel of Al Jazeera English uploaded on 13 October 2024. The description of the video reads, “Footage shows the moment a fuel tank explodes at a petrol station in Chechnya, in Russia, causing a huge fireball. Four people, including two children, were killed in the blast.”
A video report by CNN-News18 can be seen below. The description of the video reads, “At least four people have been killed in an explosion at a gas station in Russia’s southern region of Chechnya, officials have said. The explosion of a gas tank triggered a fire at the service station in the regional capital, Grozny, said Russia’s Emergencies Ministry. The ministry said that two children were among the dead. Local media said seven fire engines and 35 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze which has since been extinguished.”
The viral video was uploaded on the Turkish public broadcast service TRT World’s YouTube channel on 13 October 2024, the description of which reads, “An explosion at a fuel station in the city of Grozny in Chechnya kills at least four people and injured others on Saturday, October 12”.
A report published in Reuters read, “Two children were among four people who were killed on Saturday after a blast at a fuel station in the Chechen capital Grozny, the Russian region’s emergencies ministry said.
Authorities said a fuel tank had exploded at the station, resulting in a fire, with five more people injured.
Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, said on Telegram that he had taken the situation under his control. He said that those responsible for the blast would be brought to justice, but did not give further details.”

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and even not from India, but from Russia.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video of a blazing tanker rolling down the road is not related to the recent accident in Jaipur. The video shows a gas station blast in Grozny, Chechnya, Russia on 12 October 2024.
