Former Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, passed away last night (26 December 2024). Following this, an image went viral on social media claiming it to be the last picture of Dr Manmohan Singh. In the image, Dr Manmohan Singh can be seen lying on the hospital bed and a doctor is standing beside him. Sharing the image on Facebook, a user wrote, “Last picture of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji”.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral image is old. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published on the Zee News website on 14 October 2021. The report contained a similar image to the viral image. In that image, apart from the doctor, the then Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya can be seen standing beside Dr Manmohan Singh. The viral image is cropped from this image.
According to the report, the former Prime Minister was admitted to AIIMS New Delhi on 13 October 2021 after he complained of weakness following a fever.
We found another report published on 14 October 2021 containing the same image. The report stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Dr Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery. Moreover, the then Union Health Minister, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, visited Dr Manmohan Singh at AIIMS.
It is worth mentioning that Dr Mansukh Mandaviya’s visit to AIIMS kicked up a row after Dr Manmohan Singh’s daughter accused Dr Mansukh Mandaviya of getting a photographer inside the room despite the family objecting to it.

This makes it clear that the viral image of Dr Manmohan Singh is from the year 2021.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The image that went viral as the last picture of the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is from 2021 when he was admitted to AIIMS New Delhi after he complained of weakness following a fever.
