Fact-Check

Recall Timeline: The recall in question was announced on February 8, 2023, and applied only to products manufactured between December 14, 2022, and January 23, 2023. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), approximately 4.9 million units of Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaners were recalled in the United States, with an additional 56,000 units in Canada.

The CPSC’s original recall notice provided guidance for consumers, advising them to stop using the affected products immediately and contact the company for a refund or replacement.

Affected products included certain scents and sizes of Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaners, and consumers were encouraged to check lot codes to verify whether their purchase was part of the recall. For detailed information about the affected lot numbers, visit Fabuloso’s recall page.

Reason for Recall: The recall was initiated due to potential contamination with Pseudomonas species bacteria. These bacteria are commonly found in soil and water and can pose health risks to individuals with weakened immune systems or chronic lung conditions. The contamination was linked to a manufacturing issue where inadequate levels of preservative were added during production.

Products Affected: The recall included specific scents and sizes of Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaners. Consumers were advised to check lot codes to determine whether their products were part of the recall. The CPSC’s recall notice provided guidance on how to stop using affected products and obtain refunds or replacements.

Additional Information: To provide clarity on the matter, we reached out to Fabuloso for confirmation. Here is their statement:

“A voluntary recall of select Fabuloso products was announced by the Company on Feb. 8, 2023, that applied to the US and Canada only. It encompassed products produced from December 14, 2022, through January 23, 2023, when the manufacturing issue was corrected. Fabuloso sold in other markets was not part of this recall, and there has been no other recall anywhere in the world.”

This statement confirms that the manufacturing issue was resolved in January 2023, with no subsequent recalls. The recall was limited to products in the United States and Canada, meaning Fabuloso products sold in other regions were unaffected.

According to the company spokesperson, there has been no other recall of Fabuloso products anywhere in the world since the early 2023 incident, confirming that the manufacturing issue has been fully resolved.

Conclusion

The resurfaced claims about a Fabuloso recall being recent or ongoing are misleading. The recall occurred in February 2023 and was limited to products manufactured within a specific timeframe. The manufacturing issue has since been resolved, and there have been no further recalls or product safety concerns reported.
