Following a court-ordered survey of the 16th-century Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, violence erupted in Sambhal on 24 November 2024, Sunday. Against this backdrop, a video of Lathi Charge on a group of protestors is going viral on social media claiming it to be from the recent violence in Sambhal. Sharing the video on Facebook, a user wrote, “Yogi Ji’s Police Back in Form. This is the way to deal with these peacefools🔥 #SambhalJamaMasjid”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the false. The video is old and not related to the recent violence in Sambhal. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a tweet where the video was uploaded on 21 December 2019. According to the caption of the tweet, the video was from Gorakhpur.
As the video has been available on the internet since 2019, it proves that the video is not related to the recent violence in Sambhal.
Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. We found a video uploaded on the Live Hindustan YouTube channel on 20 December 2019. The visuals of this video were similar to the viral video.
According to the report, the incident was from Nakhas Chowk in Gorakhpur during the anti-CAA protest where police had to use tear gas and lathi charge on the protestors.

A comparison between the Google map image and the screenshot from the viral video can be seen below.
This makes it clear that the viral video is old and from Gorakhpur. It is worth mentioning that the distance between Gorakhpur and Sambhal is 653 kilometres.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is False. The viral video is from the 2019 Gorakhpur Anti-CAA protest. This has no link to the recent violence in Sambhal.
