According to the news website Tnp.Straitstimes, the man was beating his sister for leaving their sick mother at home and going to meet her boyfriend. The incident took place in a shopping centre in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The report also included a Twitter post with the video shared on 30 October, 2022.

The report also mentioned that the Kota Kinabalu District Police issued a statement in October 2022 regarding the viral video, stating that they had not received any complaints or information about the incident. However, the police are conducting an investigation into the viral video.
