
The tragic landslides in Wayanad claimed over 323 lives and officials worry the number could climb higher. Social media is flooded with the visuals of landslides claimed to be from Wayanad. One such video shows a road crumbling down as the entire trunk of the hillside collapses. Sharing the video on Facebook, users are claiming it to be from Wayanad.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral video is old and not from Wayanad. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking some screenshots of the video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found the video in a report by NDTV published on 30 July 2021. According to the report the video is from Himachal Pradesh. The report read, “A stretch of road is seen collapsing as a hillside crashes down in dramatic visuals of a landslide in Himachal Pradesh. The road caved at Sirmaur after two days of incessant rain. A clip that has been widely shared shows a chunk of the hillside falling, taking the road with it. About 100 metres of the road slides down and vanishes in moments. There are no reports of casualties”.
We found another report in The Indian Express, published on 30 July 2021, which stated that the video is from the Himachal Pradesh landslide.

Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The video of the landslide is old and not from Wayanad. The video shows the landslide in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on 30 July 2021.
