An image of a corpse inside a freezer went viral with the claim that a woman named Kajal from Assam was living in a live-in relationship with Shammi alias Shabir Miya. She was first raped by 7 Muslim men and then kept inside the freezer in an unconscious state and after that, she died. The post further claims that following the death of the woman, Gaffar Miyan and his accomplices raped the corpse every day for 8 days and put it back in the freezer.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the image was not from Assam and it had been shared with a false context. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search and as a result, we found the image along with other images on a Portuguese website article published on 4 March 2010. Translating the article with Google Translate, it read,
“KILLED THE WOMAN AND HID IT IN THE FREEZER
UPDATED: After killing his wife by asphyxiation, a 45-year-old man placed her body in the freezer of his home in Osasco, Greater São Paulo, and continued his life normally, certain that his crime would never be discovered. An anomalous tip, however, led the police to the property, the crime was eventually discovered and the killer, who remained at the scene, certain of impunity, ended up arrested and taken to the local police station. According to the police officer responsible for recording the incident, scenes of jealousy on the part of the man and constant aggression against the woman were common. “For this reason, when she disappeared, neighbours suspected the worst and reported the incident to the police,” he added. In a statement to the police, the accused said that he killed his wife by asphyxiation, but in self-defence, as he claimed that his wife was threatening to kill him by poisoning him. The police found no traces of blood or injuries on the body.
The victim’s body, according to that police officer, was found in a frozen fetal position and as it was still frozen, it could not be removed for identification to be made. From the police station, the man was taken to an emergency room to receive medical care, as he had injuries to his hands and arms, before being taken to the city’s public jail”.
The same image was published on another website on 2 March 2010, but they didn’t mention anything about the place or time of the incident.
Moving forward, we found a tweet from GP Singh, DGP Assam Police, who clarified that the viral claim was fake.
Also, we found a post on the official Facebook page of Assam Police. It read, “Some individuals are circulating some photographs alleging they’re from Assam. This is fake news & was debunked by Assam Police in 2022 as well. We urge citizens not to share or forward misleading information. Action will be taken against those attempting to create panic with misinformation”.
From this, it is clear that the incident was at least 12 years old and not from Assam.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim made with the viral image is false. The images are at least 12 years old and no such incident happened in Assam.
