The People In Viral Video Are Not Meitei Militants.

Recently a video of a few people dressed in police uniforms and firing from inside a car went viral on social media. Sharing the video on Twitter a user claimed that those are Meitei Militants from Manipur dressed in Manipur State Police uniforms. According to the claim they are attacking Kuki tribal Christians with stolen state armory weapons.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the people on the video are not Meitei Militants. They are actually Manipur Police personnels. Here's the fact check

Fact Check

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search. As a result, we came across a tweet from the Manipur Police. Mentioning the video Manipur Police said that the claim is fake. Manipur Police tweeted, "#FAKE

These are Manipur Police personnels taking refuge in BP vehicle and firing back at militants who ambushed SFs on 14/7/2024 in Jiribam District".

The police personnels can be heard talking in Manipuri language. With the help of our Manipur team, we got to know that they were saying, "They are also shooting from there. There, there, they are running over there. Let us also shoot back. Look and aim carefully, the CRP are also there. They are hiding in that house. Shoot at the house. It looks like we have hit one of them. Reload the gun, they are also near the foothill of that hill. If only, we could drive a bit more further".

According to reports, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed in an ambush by Kuki militants at Mongbung village in Jiribam district on Sunday (July 14) morning while another CRPF jawan and two state police commandos sustained bullet injuries in the attack.
