Armed forces personnel can stay at Taj group of hotels in India at a discounted rate, but not free.

Recently a post surfaced on social media claiming that Indian Army officers are now permitted to stay free of charge at all Taj Hotels across India. (Taj Hotels is a chain of luxury hotels and a subsidiary of the Indian Hotels Company Limited, headquartered in Mumbai, India. Incorporated by Jamsetji Tata in 1902, the company is a part of the Tata Group).

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by conducting a keyword search on Google and the results led us to the offers section of the Taj hotel website. There they clearly state that “Armed Forces Special Offer provides a generous 20% savings on the best available rooms, food and soft beverages, as well as spa and salon services. This offer is open to both residential and non-residential guests until 31st March, 2025.The Armed Forces Freedom Offer pays tribute to the valour and dedication of our soldiers who are the true guardians of independent India”. The terms and condition states that

  • The special rate can only be availed by Armed Forces Personnel only – Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force - currently in-service and retired.
  • The rate is applicable for personal travel only. This rate cannot be used for business travels.
  • Valid and original Armed Forces Photo ID with a mandatory Government photo ID is required at the time of check-in.
  • The concerned Indian Armed Forces personnel is required to stay as a part of the booking.

We contacted the Taj Hotel Group for more information, and they confirmed that army personnel can stay at their hotels at a discounted rate, but not free.

All the above information confirms that the post is misleading
