Fact Check-

A reputed company like Amazon posting recruitment ads on social media without proper information about it looked suspicious. We searched for Amazon’s job recruitment process. We found out that Amazon had described in its website how an eligible candidate can apply for a job in the organization.

According to the information on Amazon’s website, their application and interview process differs for different roles. Some processes include online applications, assessment, phone screening and interview loop. These are different ways an individual can apply for a desired position in the organization.

The hiring process in Amazon for an hourly warehouse role needs an individual to complete the job application and then attend a pre-hiring appointment.

Amazon released content about job frauds. It stated that, “Amazon India has observed that certain agencies/individuals have been making job offers on behalf of Amazon in exchange for money. Job aspirants have received dubious emails extending Amazon offer letters and asking for payments in lieu of Mediclaim, uniforms, laptops, etc. At Amazon, we don’t charge a fee at any stage of our recruitment process. Legally, we’re not obliged to honor any job assurances made by third parties in exchange for money.

Amazon also alerted people on recruitment fraud in which people are offered fictitious job opportunities. These fraud job offers can be found on bogus websites, online services and emails claiming to be from Amazon.

In the FAQ’s page of Amazon’s website, various questions about applying and interviewing can be found. To one such question Amazon replied that an individual first needs to search for a job and role he/she is interested in. Then the individual can Apply directly from the website.

This clears that Amazon does not recruit people through social media ads and other sources. They post their job openings on their websites and do not have tie ups with any third party.

Apart from this, we also found some media reports about people becoming victims of such fraud job offers. In 2023, India Today reported that Delhi police had busted an international cyber-criminal gang. Around 11,000 people were duped with fake work from home jobs. Delhi police received a complaint in which a woman was cheated 1.18 lakhs rupees by unknown scammers who promised online part-time jobs in Amazon.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the online ad for jobs in Amazon is fake. Amazon does not post job openings like this on social media. This is a false advertisement to dupe people. Interested candidates can apply for jobs directly on Amazon websites.
