The flag in the viral video is common Islamic flag, not the Pakistan national flag. It differs from the Pakistan flag in several ways

With the first four phases of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024 over, the country is now bracing for the fifth phase of the general polls. Voting for the Lok Sabha election in Mumbai is on 20 May, 2024. Several videos from different parts of the country are circulating on social media regarding the 2024 general election.

Amidst this, A video of Anil Desai, the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate from Mumbai South has gone viral on social media with a claim that Pakistan flags were waved during his election campaign at Chembur.

The caption of the post states that, “This is Uddhav Thackeray candidate Anil Desai's campaign in Chembur with the Pakistani flag”.

Fact Check-

After carefully observing different frames of the viral video, we found that the flag seen in it is not the national flag of Pakistan. Pakistan flag has a white stripe and a crescent moon & star. The flag in the viral video does not have a white stripe and the viral video’s flag features multiple small stars which are absent from the Pakistan flag.

In further search, we found a report published on 14 May by Rajkaaj News It is titled “Islamic flag allegedly seen in Shiv Sena UBT rally, created ruckus on social media.” According to the article, “the video being shared on social media, a rally of Shiv Sena UBT candidate Anil Desai is being shown from Chembur, Mumbai. A person is walking waving a green flag in the crowd present at the rally. This flag is being claimed to be an Islamic flag.”

Moving forward we found another report which also covered the same video. As per this report as well, the flag in the video is an Islamic flag, not the national flag of Pakistan.

Using hints from the viral video, we were also able to geolocate the spot to Lokhande Marg in Chembur. Anil Desai held a roadshow in Chembur on 14 May campaigning for the Lok Sabha election. The Instagram post below mention the roadshow and the locations it was held in.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The flag in the viral video is common Islamic flag, not the Pakistan national flag. It differs from the Pakistan flag in several ways.
