Currently, a video of a woman with injuries (appears to be burnt) on her face is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that this woman is a victim of Israel’s phosphorus bomb attack during the war with Palestine.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The woman in the video is from Morocco and is suffering from a rare skin disease.
What’s the claim?
Sharing the video, a social media user wrote, “This woman is a victim of white phosphorus bombs dropped by Israel. Israel is a malevolent terrorist state.”
Fact Check-
We found that the woman in the video is smiling and not in pain. We also found that the wounds or scars on her face don’t look recent. This made us suspicious if this woman is actually a victim of Israel’s phosphorus bomb attack.
We also found a logo of an organization on the top left corner of the viral video. The logo belongs to a non-profit organization from Morocco called Moonvoice Association, which helps children and people suffering from Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) disease. This is a rare genetic disease that makes the patient extremely sensitive to ultraviolet rays from sun and other kinds of artificial lighting. This disease mostly affects eyes and other body parts exposed to sun.
We found the viral video uploaded on the Moonvoice Association’s Instagram page on 5 February 2024. Ahmed Zainoun, Founder and President of the Moonvoice Associations wrote, “How can we resist the pain of these children? How can we abandon when we are their hope? How can we hide while the disease is ravaging their bodies? We promised ourselves to fight for them, and here we are, walking on the promise and fulfilling it. No matter how difficult the task is, we resist until we see the light of the sun and them. The dream must come true and luck must smile at the children of the moon and we see them in life as soft as the rest of the children. That smile on their faces is our motivation and their trust in us is our guide on this path that we took from the beginning for their sake.”
In another post, he mentioned the name of the lady in the video as Shaima from the city Fes and she is not protected from ultraviolet rays. So their team rushed to help her and prevent her from losing organs of her body.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The lady in the video is from Morocco and suffering from a rare genetic skin disease called Xeroderma Pigmentosum. She is not a victim of Israel’s phosphorus bomb attack on Palestine.
