The viral video shows a building collapse in the Moroccan city of Casablanca in August 2020.

A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 has struck central Morocco, killing more than 2,000 people and causing severe damage in several areas. The epicentre of the earthquake was in the High Atlas Mountains, southwest of the city of Marrakesh. After the earthquake that shook Morocco, many videos and pictures are coming out through social media. One of them shows a building collapsing to the ground in the night. The caption of the post states, Moment of building collapse after the strong earthquake hits in Marrakesh of Morocco

Fact Check-

Our investigation began with a reverse image search of key frames from the viral video, which led us to the same video was uploaded on a YouTube channel of BTP News three years ago. It was uploaded on 7th August 2020.

In further search we found a French news portal carried a report containing the viral video. It stated that the incident took place on 5 August, 2020, in the Sbata region, near Casablanca in Morocco. The report mentioned that one person died during the collapse.

Another YouTube channel BRJ INFOTV has also uploaded the same video with the caption “Dangerous: Watch the moment a house collapses in the entire Spata neighborhood, Casablanca”

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The viral video shows a building collapse in the Moroccan city of Casablanca in August 2020. It is not related to the recent earthquake in Morocco.
