Recently, in a Naxal attack in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, 10 police personnel and a driver were killed. This is not the first time the state is experiencing such things. Chhattisgarh faced many attacks like this in the past years.

Many images are circulating on social media claiming to be the visuals of the recent Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh. In one such post, we found three images showing destroyed vehicles and security personnel carrying a dead soldier. It was claimed that these images are of a recent Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh.

However, fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. Old images from different times and locations are viral as the recent Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh.

What’s The claim?

Sharing the images, social media users are claiming that these images are of a recent Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh in 11 which eleven soldiers were martyred.

Fact Check-

First Image:

In this image parts of a destroyed vehicle can be seen scattered in the middle of the road. A Google Reverse Image Search on the image led us to a report published by Livemint on 1 May 2019.

According to reports, the incident is said to be from the Godchiroli district of Maharashtra. In this incident, a security force vehicle was blown up by a Naxalite group which claimed the lives of 15 security jawans. The attack was carried out by the Naxalites in revenge, exactly a year after Indian security forces gunned down 40 Naxalites in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli area.

A video of the incident was aired on the NDTV India website in 2019. According to reports, the Naxals blew up a police vehicle in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra with IED. 10 jawans were injured in this Naxal attack. Naxals set fire to 36 vehicles of some contractors of the region. While enroute to investigate the case, the Naxals blew up the police vehicle using an IED bomb.

Second Image:

The second image is of a Maoist attack from Koraput, Odisha in 2013. Maoist bombed an Indian Army vehicle killing 5 soldiers and severely injuring 2.

Third Image:

In the third image, you can see a few security personnel carrying a dead body. A Google Reverse Image Search led us to a report published by NDTV in 2013. According to this report, 24 people were killed in the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh. This makes it clear that this image is not of the recent Naxal attack but an old one.

Maoist claimed the responsibility of this attack in which they killed 24 people in a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh. They released a note in Telugu in which they cleared that their targets were Congress leader Mahendra Karma and Nand Kumar Patel. These two Congress leaders died in the attack along with others.

Conclusion:

From the above facts, it is clear that the images are old and from different locations. Out of the three images, one is from Chhattisgarh but an old image, another two are old images of Maoist attacks in Maharashtra and Odisha.
