BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya has shared a clipped video without a proper context. In the original video, Gandhi speaks about the decline of India's democratic institutions.

Social media users have often targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and shared clipped and edited videos related to the speeches he has given.

Keeping the trend alive, head of the BJP IT Cell, Amit Malviya has shared a 4 seconds video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Video shows Rahul Gandhi saying, “We are fighting against the entire infrastructure of India” in a press conference. He has shared this video with a satiric comment in the caption.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a keyword search on YouTube to find the original video of the press conference. The official YouTube channel by Rahul Gandhi has posted the entire version of the video on 5 August 2022. The caption of the video states, “LIVE: Press Briefing | Nationwide Protests by Congress | AICC HQ | New Delhi | #महंगाई_पर_हल्ला_बोल

Upon hearing the entire speech, we found that the longer version of the viral video could be heard from the timestamp of 11.30 to 12.41 minutes. We can clearly understand that Rahul Gandhi was talking about how there has been a decline in the independence of democratic institutions such as the judiciary, electoral system and media.

Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “Today every institution of India is not independent. Today every institution of India is under the control of the RSS, every RSS person is appointed in an institution. So we are not fighting with a political party, we are fighting against the whole infrastructure of India. When our government was there the infrastructure was neutral”

This clarifies that Rahul Gandhi was actually saying the opposition party fights relying on democratic institutions. However, democratic institutions in India are no longer independent and fully support the ruling government. He also says that the RSS has infiltrated all the institutions in India. Thus, their fight is against the entire infrastructure of India.

The additional context before and after the viral statement has been cleverly cropped out to mislead viewers.

Below you can see the comparison video between the viral video and the original video with the clear context.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the viral video is misleading and has been shared without a proper context. The original video shows Rahul Gandhi saying that the institutions in India are no longer independent and the members of the ruling party and RSS have infiltrated them.
