On 6 September 2024, a 70-year-old man was killed, and five others were injured after a “rocket” hit the house of Manipur’s first chief minister, late Mairembam Koireng Singh, in Moirang, Binshnupur District. On this backdrop, a video of a rocket projection went viral on social media linking it to the incident. Sharing the video on X, a user wrote, “Call it Pumpi, claim it indigenous, but such a rocket-propelled projectile can cause significant damage and has killed a man in Moirang. These things are illegal, and Indian security forces must crack down on whoever possesses such weapons”.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The video has no link to the incident in Manipur. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found the same video uploaded on a YouTube channel on 8 November 2018. The caption of the video was “HTPB propellant model rocket (second time)”.
Moving forward, using relevant keywords, we found a tweet from Manipur Police refuting the claim.
From this, it’s clear that the claim made with the viral video is misleading. The video has been there on the internet since 2018.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The video is not related to the recent situation in Moirang, Manipur. The video has been there on the internet since 2018.
