Nepal is facing a phase of political unrest, with Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli resigning amid widespread youth-led (Generation Z) demonstrations. The unrest stems from long-standing concerns over corruption, nepotism, unemployment, and widening inequalities, alongside discontent with restrictions on social media platforms.
Amid his resignation users shared posts claiming that he was the first and only Nepali prime minister who never visited India during his term. The caption states, “KP Sharma Oli is the first & only Nepal PM who never visited India during his term. Whoever goes against Modi, ends up shattered”.

Fact Check-
Our investigation began with a keyword search on Google, this led us to an article by the NDTV, published on 19 February, 2016, titled “Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Arrives On 6-Day India Visit”. According to the report, it was KP Sharma Oli’s first foreign trip as the Prime Minister of Nepal, spanning six days, across New Delhi, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Moving forward, we came across a post shared on 20 February, 2016 where PM Modi thanked him for visiting India with his wife.

A press notice, issued by the Union ministry of external affairs on 12 February, 2016, about Oli’s trip to India between February 19 and 24, 2016, confirms this.
Upon further research, we found a Twitter post by PM Modi on 07 April 2018, where he shared pictures from Rashtrapati Bhavan and mentioned hosting PM Oli.
Based on these evidences, we can understand that KP Sharma Oli has visited India twice as Prime Minister. And we found that during both his visits, he was serving as Nepal’s Prime Minister. He was in power as the elected leader between October 2015 and August 2016 (his first visit as PM was in February 2016) and then from February 2018 till July 2021 (his second visit was in April 2018).
So, the viral claim that former Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli never visited India during his tenure is not true; he visited India during his previous terms as PM.
