However, as we investigated, we came to know that the Aashirvaad Atta pack with the Halal logo shown in the image was an export-only pack, this pack was not meant for India. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search and found a tweet by ITC Limited on 1 December 2023. In the tweet, ITC said that the Aashirvaad Atta pack with the Halal logo was an old export-only pack and it was not meant for the Indian market.

A completely false, erroneous and mischievous message is being posted / circulated implying that Aashirvaad Atta is being sold in India with Halal logo. We would like to clarify that the pack shown in these messages is a very old Export only pack which was never meant for (1/3)

We found another tweet from ITC Cares on April 25, 2020, clarifying the viral claim. It read, “This allegation that an Aashirvaad Atta pack with a halal logo is being sold in India is misleading & false. This pack is an export pack meant to be sold in a country where the laws make the presence of the halal logo on the pack mandatory. Please do not fall prey to such rumors”.

ITC entered the branded flour market in May 2002 with the launch of Aashirvaad Atta.

We checked the packet of “Aashirvaad Atta With Multigrains“, but it did not have the halal logo.

What is a Halal Certificate?

The halal certification states that the food or product is permissible for followers of Islam and that no haram materials or methods are used in its manufacture or processing. The presence of the Halal logo on a product gives the consumer the assurance that the product complies with Halal standards and can be consumed by Muslims.

This kind of claim was made with other products too. You can read our previous fact check here.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim made with the viral image is misleading. The Aashirvaad Atta packet bearing the Halal logo was an old export-only pack and it was not meant for the Indian market.
