However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was misleading. The viral video is unrelated to the UGC Bill. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a YouTube channel, where a longer version of the viral video was uploaded on January 27, 2026.

The caption of the video read, “Police and BJP workers face off in Jalore; police stops them from going to the District Collector…”
Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to a report published in Navabharat Times on 27 January 2026 that contained an image similar to the viral video.

According to the report, People from 24 villages in Jalore protested against the dissolution of the Jhab Panchayat Samiti. A memorandum was submitted to the collector demanding that Jhab remain at the Panchayat Samiti headquarters.
The translation of the report read, “On Tuesday, people from 24 villages, including Jhaab, reached the Jalore district headquarters to protest the abolition of the Jhaab Panchayat Samiti in Rajasthan’s Jalore district. Under the banner of the “Save Jhaab Sangharsh Samiti,” a large number of BJP workers arrived in Jalore in their private vehicles and staged a vigorous demonstration outside the Collectorate. The protest was led by BJP District Vice President Mahendra Singh.
In the evening, a delegation met with District Collector Dr Pradeep Keshavrao Gawande and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister. The memorandum demanded that Jhaab either be made the Panchayat Samiti headquarters or be included within the Chitalwana Panchayat Samiti as before. The delegation stated that Jhaab was originally designated a Panchayat Samiti, encompassing 20 villages from the Chitalwana Panchayat Samiti and four from the Sanchore Panchayat Samiti. However, after about a month and a quarter, the order was changed and Bhadaruna was made the Panchayat Samiti headquarters, which is contrary to public sentiment…”
Other reports can be read here and here.
This makes it clear that the viral video is unrelated to the UGC protests.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video doesn’t show a protest against the new UGC Bill. The video is from Jalore, Rajasthan. It shows a protest against the abolition of the Jhaab Panchayat Samiti in Jalore district.
