A video circulating on social media claims to show a person in Britain confronting Prime Minister Keir Starmer and demanding him to leave his pub, accusing him of failing to do his job. The caption of the post mentioned, “A Pub Owner Tells The British PM To Get Out Of His Pub Because He Has Failed To Do His Job”.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a relevant keyword and reverse image search on Google. The results led us to a report published by the news website Independent on 9 July, 2021, which confirmed that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was thrown out of a pub in Bath by its owner, who opposed the lockdown and blamed Starmer for the UK’s COVID-19 response. 

Based on this, we conducted a keyword search and found related news coverage on various YouTube channels in 2021, all indicating that the incident was connected to Starmer’s stance on the COVID-19 response. At the time, Boris Johnson was the British Prime Minister. 

But the video is actually from April 2021, when Mr. Starmer was Leader of the Opposition. A BBC report states that the landlord in the video “was unhappy with Labour’s response to government lockdown measures”. 

As per reports, in April 2021, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer visited Bath, UK, as part of his election campaign when he entered The Raven bar. During his visit, he met Rod Humphries, the pub’s co-owner and landlord, who was dissatisfied with the Labour Party’s response to the government’s COVID-19 lockdown measures and asked Starmer to leave.

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be Misleading. This video shows Keir Starmer being asked to leave a pub in 2021, during his time as Leader of the Opposition, not as British Prime Minister.
