Old video of Priyanka Gandhi’s remark on Bangladesh Hindus falsely shared as recent

This viral video is from December 2024 and is not related to the recent incident. 

On 18 December, Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu garment worker, was beaten to death and his body was set on fire in Bhaluka, Bangladesh by an angry mob on charges of blasphemy. Following the murder of Dipu Chandra Das, many posts have become viral on social media. Meanwhile, a video of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi speaking in Lok Sabha circulating widely with claims that she addressed the recent violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.

The video shows Priyanka Gandhi speaking out against the atrocities committed against Hindu and Christian minorities in Bangladesh and demanding that the Indian government hold talks with the Bangladesh government.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with relevant keyword search on Google and we found an extended version of the viral video on the Times of India Bharat YouTube channel on 21 December. The caption of the video states that Priyanka Gandhi’s old speech has become viral on social media after the death of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found an extended version of this video uploaded on 16 December, 2024 on a YouTube channel called News2. According to the caption, Priyanka Gandhi delivered a speech in the House on Victory Day against the atrocities committed against minorities in Bangladesh. From the 2:15 timestamp of the video, you can see the viral clip.

Moving forward, we found multiple news reports from 2024 regarding this speech of Priyaka Gandhi. As per the Hindu report, she urged the central government to take stock of the plight of minorities especially Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh.

Though Priyanka Gandhi spoke against the murder of the Hindu man in Bangladesh and noted that violence in the name of religion was alarming, this viral video dates back to December 2024. When Priyanka Gandhi made remarks on atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh during the question hour in Loksabha.
