However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral video had been edited. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search. This led us to a post on the official Facebook page of Assam Police.
The post read, “ANTI-NATIONAL FAKE NEWS ALERT!
Anti-national elements are pushing a synthetically altered (deepfake) video to falsely attribute statements to DGPAssamPolice Shri Harmeet Singh, IPS, claiming that Karbi community members on a hunger strike were arrested.
This claim is totally FALSE. The DGP clearly stated that the individuals were taken to hospital for medical care.
Assam Police is initiating strict legal action against those creating or circulating such malicious misinformation.

In the original video, DGP Harmeet Singh did not say that the local Karbi community people have been arrested. He said that the people were taken to the hospital for medical care.

From our investigation, we can say that the viral video has been altered. DGP Harmeet Singh didn’t say that the local Karbi community people were arrested as directed by the central government.
