Recently, a video went viral on social media claiming it to be related to the mob lynching of Deepu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. It has been claimed that the video shows Deepu Chandra Das being handed over to the mob by the Bangladesh Police. Sharing the video, a user wrote, “Deepu Chandra Das kept crying uncontrollably đ.
He pleaded again and again, folding his hands and begging for mercy.
Despite his desperation, he was allegedly handed over by the Bangladesh police to extremist elements, a decision that, according to the claims, sealed his tragic fate.
Deepu repeatedly kept saying,
âSir, I am innocent.â
âSir, I am innocent.â
âSir, I have not done anything wrong.â
He kept repeating these words, hoping someone would listen, hoping someone would believe him. But his cries reportedly went unanswered.
According to the account, the policeârather than protecting himâhanded him over to radical individuals. What followed next is described as so horrific that it would shake the conscience of humanity itself. The treatment Deepu allegedly faced afterward is portrayed as brutal and inhumane, leaving a deep scar on the moral fabric of society.
As per this narrative, Deepuâs only âfaultâ was his identity. It claims that in the country where he lived, the Hindu community has gradually been reduced to a minority, marginalized over time. The text suggests that Hindus there are now living in constant fear, often treated as scapegoats, vulnerable and unprotected.
This account presents Deepu Chandra Das not as a criminal, but as a victimâsomeone who kept begging for justice, innocence, and basic human dignity, yet allegedly received none.”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The video is old and the person in the viral video is not Deepu Chandra Das. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a YouTube channel “Bhorer Kagoj Live” where a longer version of the viral video was uploaded on 18 November 2025.

According to the caption, the video shows a student of Dhaka College.
But, reports state that, Deepu Chandra Das was mob lynched on 18 December 2025.
We noticed the logo of Dhaka College on the jersey worn by the man and the name MOMIN printed on it. The person in the video says in Bengali that he is a student of Dhaka College and he has nothing to do with any protest.

We found another video where the person can be heard saying that his name is Abdul Momin. After some time, a police officer helped him find a rickshaw. According to the voiceover, the police officer is DC Masud.
A relevant keyword search led us to a video where the police officer can be seen. According to the caption, he is the Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division, Masud Alam.
Another video shows DC Masud Alam helping the injured student find a rickshaw.

According to the report, Masud Alam gave the rickshaw fare on behalf of the student.
Another similar report can be seen here.
This makes it clear that the viral video predates the mob lynching of Deepu Chandra Das in Bangladesh.
ConclusionÂ
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show Deepu Chandra Das being handed over to the mob by the Bangladesh Police. The video is old. It shows an injured student of Dhaka College. The Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam helped him board a rickshaw and sent him back to the hostel.
