Fact Check-

We started our investigation with a keyword and reverse image search on google and we found that the viral image has been taken from the Facebook profile of a Pakistani man named Sheikh Naveed Akram, who is currently residing in Sydney, Australia.

A Pakistani immigrant named Naveed Akram has come forward to clarify he has no connection to the Bondi Beach attack and is a victim of mistaken identity that has put his life at risk.

Akram has shared a denial on his Facebook account stating, “This photo being circulated is NOT the person involved in the Bondi incident. That is me, and I am completely innocent and have no connection whatsoever to what happened. Someone is falsely using my picture, which is putting my safety, reputation, and well-being at risk”.

Akram posted a video and social media messages to deny any involvement and plead for people to stop sharing his photo in a Pakistani cricket jersey, which was being misused online.

The results of the reverse image search led us to original image posted by Akram on his Facebook in November 2019. You can see the image below.

As per ABC news report, the two gunmen were identified by police as father and son. The pair have since been named by local media as Sajid Akram, 50, and Naveed Akram, 24. Police found improvised explosive devices in a vehicle linked to one of the attackers and later removed them. Authorities are investigating whether a third person was involved.

This viral image was taken from the Facebook profile of a different Naveed Akram, who pleaded for people to stop the misinformation through social media messages.
