Video from Bangladesh falsely shared as illegal immigrants fleeing from West Bengal after the launch of SIR

This video is from Mongla ferry Ghat in Bagerhat District, Bangladesh

On 27 October, 2025, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced that Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will be conducted in 12 States and Union Territories, including West Bengal. The Special Intensive Revision is a process by the Election Commission of India that involves a comprehensive review of voter rolls, including a detailed check at the local level to ensure the accuracy of the lists. Following the announcement of SIR in West Bengal, many illegal Bangladeshi migrants were arrested trying to cross the border out of India.

Against this backdrop, a video purporting to show infiltrators and illegal immigrants being sent back to their respective countries from states implementing SIR is going viral on social media. In the video, we can see a crowd trying to cross a river in boats.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google with the key frames of the video and we found that this incident was not from West Bengal, but in Bangladesh.

According to the above post, these images are of a ferry terminal in Mongla, Bangladesh. We have found several similar videos of the Mongla ferry terminal. Below, you can see a video of this terminal was uploaded on Facebook in November 2024.   

A Bangladeshi vlogger has posted a video blog of this place on YouTube. You can see the video below. Mongla is an upazila of Bagerhat District in the Division of Khulna, Bangladesh.

The mountain in the red circle in the comparison below is from the blog video. The viral video also clearly shows the same mountain. As a result, it is evident that the location shown in both the blog video and the viral video is the same.

Thus, it is clear that a video from the Mongla port in Bangladesh is falsely shared as West Bengal.

Conclusion- 

Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video is from Mongla ferry Ghat in Bagerhat District, Bangladesh.
