Amid Hijab row, an old video from Kerala resurfaces with a false communal angle.

This is an old video from Kerala and the incident has no communal angle.

A hijab controversy has erupted at a Christian management School in Kochi, Kerala, after a Class 8 student was not allowed to attend classes wearing a hijab, citing school uniform rules. This led to protests and a two-day shutdown of the institution. After a meeting involving the student’s parents, school management, and political leaders, the family agreed to comply with the school’s dress code to prevent the issue from being communalised. Against this backdrop, an old video of an argument between a group of burqa clad girls and an elder woman while travelling in a private bus is going viral on social media with a claim that Muslim girls targeted an elderly Hindu woman for entering a bus without wearing a burqa and forcing her to wear it.

The caption of the video states, “Woman’s asked to get down from a bus for not wearing a burka in Kerala. Tomorrow this will happen everywhere, the way they are making the population.

Fact Check-

In October 2023, we published a fact-check debunking the same video when it went viral with a claim that Muslim girls in Kerala targeted an elderly Hindu woman for entering a bus without wearing a burqa and forced her to wear it.

This video shows an incident of a confrontation between students of the Khansa Women’s College in Kasaragod, Kerala, with an elder woman passenger and the bus operator over the driver refusing to halt the bus near their college bus stop.

For further clarification we contacted Kumbla Police Station of Kasargod and the bus driver at that time and they told us that the students of Kannur University’s Khansa Women’s College were arguing with the woman on the bus. For a long time, students have complained that buses do not stop in front of the college.

After forcibly stopping the bus, the burqa-clad students boarded it. When the old lady asked if they could board from the bus stop, the youngsters were enraged. This led to the argument. The ensuing argument is seen in the footage. The bus staff and the police have clarified that the incident has no communal dimension.

As per the Times of India report, “The cyber wing of Kasaragod police has initiated Suo motu proceedings against an ‘X’ handle for posting a false propaganda video about a group of burqa-clad women inside a private bus. The case was registered under IPC Section 153A”.

You can read the detailed factcheck here:

This video does not show Muslim girls forcing an elderly Hindu woman to wear a burqa on a bus

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be misleading. This is an old video from Kerala and the incident has no communal angle.
