Fact Check–

At first, we checked the website of RBI and so far, website has not issued any notification or press release regarding this information and we could not find any credible news reports on such a major move. If the RBI had indeed declared every Saturday a holiday, it would have impacted millions of customers and made national headlines.

As per a press release from the RBI in August 2015, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks, comprising public, private, foreign, cooperative, regional rural, and local area bank, would remain shut on every Sunday and on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, starting from 1 September 2015. Every other Saturday is a complete working day.

For further clarification, we contacted RBI’s Kochi headquarters to ascertain the facts of the news. The officials also refuted the viral claim.

So, it is clear that the viral claim about banks being closed on every Saturday and Sunday is false as the RBI has not released any such notification.
