
Recently, a video went viral on social media which shows a road crumbling down as the entire trunk of the hillside collapses. Sharing the video, users claimed that it shows a recent landslide in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
However, as we investigated, we learned that the viral video is old and not from Rishikesh. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found the video in a report by NDTV published on 30 July 2021. According to the report the video is from Himachal Pradesh. The report read, “A stretch of road is seen collapsing as a hillside crashes down in dramatic visuals of a landslide in Himachal Pradesh. The road caved at Sirmaur after two days of incessant rain. A clip that has been widely shared shows a chunk of the hillside falling, taking the road with it. About 100 metres of the road slides down and vanishes in moments. There are no reports of casualties”.

We found another report in The Indian Express, published on 30 July 2021, which stated that the video is from the Himachal Pradesh landslide.

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and not from Rishikesh.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a recent landslide in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The video shows the landslide in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on 30 July 2021.
