
After the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, tremors of which felt across the neighbouring Thailand and China, various posts went viral on social media relating to the incident. Against this backdrop, CCTV footage of two nurses in a hospital ward went viral on social media. The video shows one nurse kneeling down to protect an infant while the other nurse holds onto the babies in their cots during an earthquake. Sharing the video, users are claiming that the video shows a hospital in Thailand during the recent earthquake in Myanmar. A text overlay on the video reads, “Earthquake @7.7 Thailand 28/03/2025

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. Though the CCTV footage was captured during the recent earthquake in Myanmar, the video is from China. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search. This led us to a report published on BBC on 31 March 2025 where the viral video was uploaded. The report read, “This is the moment two nurses in China rushed to protect newborn babies when a powerful earthquake struck neighbouring Myanmar on Friday.
CCTV from a maternity unit in Ruili, a Chinese city near the border, shows one woman kneeling down to protect an infant, as another nurse holds on to other babies in their cots.
Both the nurses and newborns escaped unhurt.”

The video was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of BBC News on 31 March 2025 and according to the report, the video shows two nurses in a hospital in Ruili, China, protecting the newborns during the recent Myanmar earthquake.
The same video was uploaded on the YouTube channel USA Today. According to the video, the footage was from China.

This makes it clear that the viral video is not from Thailand but from China.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. Though the viral footage was captured during the recent Myanmar earthquake, the video is not from Thailand. The video is from a hospital in Ruili, a Chinese city near the China-Myanmar border.
