Does The Video Show Virat Kohli Having Iftar With The Muslim Cricketers?

A video of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli wearing ethnic wear went viral on social media with the claim that he joined an Iftar party with the Muslim cricketers. In the video, one clip shows Virat Kohli greeting a few Muslim people and in another clip few cricketers wearing the jersey of Pakistan can be seen having food together.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The video is a compilation of two different videos. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a video uploaded on YouTube on 24 March 2023. The clips in this video matched the second part of the viral video where cricketers wearing the jersey of Pakistan can be seen having food together. According to the caption, the video shows the Pakistani players having the first Iftar in the month of Ramadan in 2023. 

Taking this clue, and using relevant keywords, we found the video uploaded by Pakistan Cricket Board on X on 24 March 2023. The caption of the video read, “Glimpses from the first iftar of the blessed month of Ramadan for the players ▶

#AFGvPAK”

This makes it clear that the second part of the video is old and it shows the Pakistani players having Iftar in 2023.

Moving forward, again conducting a reverse image search of the screenshots from the first part of the viral video, we found the longer version of it on the YouTube channel Manyavar. From the timestamp 0:11, the first part of the viral video can be seen. The video was an advertisement for Manyavar, a clothing brand, uploaded on 10 March 2017. 

This makes it clear, that the viral video is a compilation of two different videos. The first part shows Virat Kohli in an advertisement for Manyavar and the other part shows the Pakistani players having Iftar in 2023.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The video doesn’t show Virat Kohli having Iftar with the Muslim cricketers. The first part shows Virat Kohli in an advertisement for Manyavar and the other part shows the Pakistani players having Iftar in 2023.
