Old Image From Kiryat Shmona Going Viral As Recent Attack On Tel Aviv.

False International

Amid the tension in the Middle East, the conflict between Israel and some Middle Eastern countries is still going on. According to a recent live blog of Al Jazeera, Hezbollah has attacked Tel Aviv. The Lebanese organization Hezbollah has also claimed that it has targeted an Israeli military base in Tel Aviv. Against this backdrop, a photo is going viral on social media that shows a place where smoke is seen rising from the arson on the road after the attack. Sharing the photo on social media, users are claiming that the photo shows the situation in Tel Aviv after the attack.

Sharing the photo on Facebook, a user wrote, “Tel Aviv last night

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral photo is old and not from Tel Aviv. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published in The Jerusalem Post on 2 November 2023. The report contained the viral photo. The description of the photo read, “Car burns in Kiriyat Shmona after rockets hit the city, November 2, 2023.”

According to the report, Two people were injured in this attack, and a building and some cars caught fire. Hamas in Lebanon took responsibility for the attack.

Moving forward, we found that the same photo, along with some other photos from the incident, was shared by Al Jazeera on its official Facebook on 3 November 2023. There too, the photo was said to be from Kiryat Shmona.

Further, we found a tweet from the Times Of Israel journalist Emanual Fabian where the viral photo was uploaded on 2 November 2023. The tweet read, “MDA says two wounded in the rocket impact in Kiryat Shmona, including a 25-year-old in moderate condition due to shrapnel and a 40-year-old in light condition as a result of the blast. Fire and Rescue Services photos of the impact.”

It is worth mentioning that the distance between Kiryat Shmona and Tel Aviv is around 185 kilometres.

This makes it clear that the viral image is old and from Kiryat Shmona.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral image is old and it has no link to Tel Aviv. The image shows the attack by Hamas on Kiryat Shmona, Israel on 2 November 2023.
