Fact Check-

A relevant keyword search led us to a website in which the history of the Ponds company was published. According to it, Ponds was originally created as a medicinal product by Theron T. Pond in 1846 in the United States. It was initially used to heal minor cuts and ailments. After Pond's death in 1852, the company expanded to New York City. By the early 20th century, it shifted focus to cosmetics.

In 1955, Pond's was acquired by Chesebrough Manufacturing Company. A New York Times article of 1986 reported that the British consumer product company, Unilever, agreed to acquire Chesebrough-Pond's Inc. for $3.1 billion in cash, paying $72.50 per share.

Unilever came into existence after merging two different companies named Lever Brothers and Margarine Unie in 1930. Lever Brothers was founded in 1885 by William Hesketh Lever and his brother, James. Margarine Unie was formed in 1927 through the merger of several margarine companies in the Netherlands, including Jurgens and Van den Bergh.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. Ponds was first launched in the United States and later acquired by Unilever which is a UK based company.
