This viral video of a child is from Gaza, not Bangladesh

The video shows a child who survived the Israeli attack of Nuseirat Camp in Gaza in July 2024. It has no connection to Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5, after weeks of protests against a quota system for government jobs descended into violence and grew into a broader challenge to her 15-year rule. Social media is abuzz with many videos, images, and news alleging that there are big attacks against the minority Hindus in Bangladesh in this context.

Amidst this we have noticed a video of a small child covered in ash sitting on the footpath. The video is claimed to depict an incident in Bangladesh. The caption states, “Those with agendas and vote traders are all silent. On the murders, rapes, and arson of Hindus in Bangladesh”.

Let’s check the truth

Fact Check-

The viral video displays the logo of the news channel Al Jazeera in the top left corner. The top right of the video displays the Arabic text also. which translates to “Nuseirat Camp—Gaza” and indicates the video’s location as

Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza, Palestine.

Moving forward, we found the same video uploaded on Al Jazeera Instagram account on 14 July 2024. The translation of the Arabic text reads as “With eyes full of astonishment and fear.. A child survived the occupation forces’ bombing of a school sheltering displaced people in Al-Nuseirat camp”.

Palestinian photographer Salama Nabil Younis also shared this video on Instagram on 14 July with the caption, “This child survived a massacre committed by the occupation in a shelter school containing a large number of displaced people in the middle of the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.”

As per reports, Israel attacked the Abu Oraiban School in central Gaza on 14 July where many displaced individuals were taking refuge. The strike resulted in 100 Palestinians injured and 22 dead.

Upon further search, we found the same video had been uploaded to CBS News’ YouTube channel also on 20 July. The video is captioned as “Video captures aftermath of Israeli airstrike in Gaza.”

Thus, taking account of all these evidences, we can understand that a video of a child surviving an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat camp in Gaza in July 2024 falsely shared as from Bangladesh. This video has nothing to do with the current situation in Bangladesh.

Conclusion-

Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The video shows a child who survived the Israeli attack of Nuseirat Camp in Gaza in July 2024. It has no connection to Bangladesh
